General Conference...

Two times a year, we spend the weekend at home as a family and watch "church" on television. It's always a weekend we look forward to as we prepare to be uplifted and edified.

Two talks that spoke to me came from Boyd K. Packer and Jeffrey R. Holland. A couple quotes I enjoyed from each of them:

Boyd K. Packer:
"Husbands and wives should understand that their first calling - from which they will never be released is to one another and then to their children."

"One of the great discoveries of parenthood is that we learn far more about what really matters from our children than we ever did from our parents."

"We urge our members to show devotion to their families."

"Fathers and mothers next time you cradle a newborn child in your arms you can have an inner vision of the mysteries and purposes of life."

Jeffrey R. Holland:
"There are going to be times in our lives when someone else gets the unexpected blessing or receives some special recognition."

"We are not diminished when someone else is added upon."

"The race we are really in is the race against sin, and surely envy is one of the most universal of those." One added bonus to conference weekend - Sunday brunch which has become a tradition with Steve's brother. All deliciousness is rolled out for brunch and I find it hard to not just eat away the morning! Of course we brought our brunch staple (mostly classified as dessert), apple nachos (here) and enjoyed french toast, doughnuts, monkey bread, eggs, fresh squeezed OJ and a first ever...SPAM. I will admit, I was a tad skeptical, although I had rave reviews from our friends who eat it often. I was impressed. It was fried and tasted much like bacon. Will I ever purchase it myself, probably not. But it wasn't half bad!

  1. Okay, tons of stuff to comment on:
    1. Saw the pic of you at Lucy's walk on Shawni's blog and you look SO THIN! You are beautiful, but I think you are always being such an amazing mom & project doer that you forget to eat. (:
    2. LOVE your pallet decoration. Someday I'll try it.
    3. LOVE the book you made your Father in law. What an amazing gift! How far in advance did you start on it? Collecting letters, etc? I've been thinking of doing one for my mom's 50th next February. And, what program did you use? Amazing.
    4. I am totally stealing the idea of doing a sibling/spouse only weekend. No kids allowed. (: I LOVE it! What a great idea.
    5. You are just so dang talented, inspiring, etc. We'll be in Tuscon the 26-29th of this month for a TSFL conference-wish we could see you and that I could just draw from your incredible-ness!
