Finding fall in Arizona...

We don't have a lot of color in the desert. So when fall rolls around I dream of our tree lined street in Wisconsin that would dump enough leaves to cover all the yards and streets. It was magical...until we had to rake up all the leaves!

Luckily - we're only a couple hour drive from the beauty of fall and this weekend we took it all in. We bundled up in sweatshirts and jeans and marveled at trees with colors ranging from green at the bottom to red on top. The air was brisk and it felt good. It was fall and it was beautiful.

We went up to the ski resort to claim free ski passes for the kids this winter. Our kids have never skied - we may or may not use them but we have them just in case we choose to become a skiing family this year! (Steve skis, I will do anything to avoid the cold, they jury is out on the kids!)

They rode the lift for the first time and the views were breathtaking. A large storm was rolling in adding to the dramatics.

It was a quick, much needed getaway. We were reminded that our kids don't sleep well away from home which made for some serious exhaustion for all of us. And even with a child up all night it was totally worth it. Plus it was finally cold enough to justify soup which does wonders for the soul.
