Rock the Block...

I could go on and on about how much I love where we live - it fits us well. The neighborhood is a good blend of old and young and every age in between and we're good friends. The block party that we have every year is evidence of that. Its four years strong and it gets better each year. There's a committee that heads it up and everyone volunteers their time, talents (check out the logo I designed for it) and resources and I'm grateful each and every year because it's no small feat. Meetings were held, fliers distributed, assignments made and the night of the party everyone came out to enjoy it.

We saw old friends and we made new friends and there was a strong feeling of community the whole night. It made me grateful to be surrounded by so many great people.

There was the rock wall (both Hallie and Hunter went up several times):

The mechanical bull (which I have the best video of Bennett on it):

Life-size angry birds - one family actually made this and it was the real deal (the boys caught on real quick that you could skip the boxes and just aim at each other!). I think I need one in my backyard!

There was the Candy Cannon (which uses an explosion to blast candy over the crowd):

Not to mention: the bounce house, dinner (plus everyone brought food to share), photo booth with props, the balloon artist and I can't forget music and dancing. Hunter's friend drug him out on the dance floor and he danced and danced and danced. I've never seen the kid dance and he was a machine. And then he found out that there was a t-shirt prize for dancers that were thrown out and he danced his heart out and was pleased as could be when both he and his friend walked away with shirts!

My mom was visiting and it was fun to have her there with me - to see the bond our little community has, to see the friendships my kids have, to see the kids having a blast. It was a good time.

There's a couple houses for sale...won't you be my neighbor?

Previous years here, here and here.
