Case in point:
Over four years ago, I purchased some white book shelves for a peg board at Pottery Barn Kids at an extremely discounted rate. All I had to make was a frame and purchase a pegboard at the Depot. I bought the pegboard to start the project and in our flooded basement tragedy the pegboard was ruined. The shelves remained in their plastic wrap. They were packaged and moved across the country. They were unpacked a year later and for two years sat on a shelf in Hunter's closet. They finally made the to-do list and today was their day to shine!
I used inexpensive 1x3 boards to make the frame and supported the back side with a few 1x3's cut down to smaller sizes (to support the pegboard.)
I purchased a 2x4 sheet of pegboard and painted it blue.
I stained the frame Minwax Jacobean
and used some brass bracket hardware that I sprayed painted using Rustoleum Hammered Paint

I think I spent more time deciding where to hang it in Hunter's room than I did to build and finish the whole project. I have things leaning against walls because I am quite cautious when it comes to putting holes in my wall. Can they be repaired? Of course! But that would just be one more thing to add to my fix it list, so I make sure of where I want to hang things before I pull out the drill or hammer.
Once it was hung, I positioned the bookshelves using the peg system. This is what the back of the shelves looks like:
Done and done. If I kept to-do lists longer than a year long, I would've done a happy dance as I crossed this off the four years and running list!
