Daddy/Daughter camping...

This is the weekend that Hallie looks forward to all year long. She gets her dad's undivided attention for 24 hours and she gets to go camping. Two wins in her book - only one win in Steve's book! Last year she was in tears at the thought of not being able to go because I was due to have a baby - she is not willing to sacrifice her time with her dad and if we're being honest, Steve eats the attention up!

Steve was excited to share the car ride because he had just started listening to the Wizard of Oz on our audible account and he knew she would love it too. They shared the drive with Dorothy and Toto and Hallie was pleased to do so.

Hallie chose their destination for dinner (easier than taking stuff to cook dinner at the campsite) and she chose Subway. Steve sends me a picture and a text: She's her mother's daughter. What 8 year old chooses Subway?

They spent time around the campfire snuggled up together, slept on rocks, enjoyed friends and were grateful that the high chance of rain never came to be (weathermen in AZ can hardly be trusted considering they know one kind of weather; warm and sunny.)

Hallie came home beaming. She loved her short weekend getaway and so did Steve. They were able to connect on a different level up in the mountains.

We've got a few more years before the local high school football game on a Friday night is more enticing than camping with her dad. Enjoying the moment.

  1. This is so sweet. I still have such a vivid memories of the dates I had with my dad. She will forever remember those camping trips. What a great dad!
